At TreeHugger we like cork, that warm material that can be harvested without chopping down trees, is fully renewable and biodegradable and can be shaped into many funky objects apart from stoppers to keep the wine in the bottles. The designers at studio Marina68 in Barcelona have worked with this local material and created a series of furniture, that embrace craftsmanship and eco-friendly materials.

American designer, Asher Dunn has recently launched his own line of furniture which takes a contemporary approach to locally manufactured and designed furniture. All of the items have been made using FSC-certified materials and low-VOC finishes, but even more interesting is the fact that they are manufactured right in Rhode Island.

Talk about trimming down on materials used for chairs and seating. Designer Alejandro Aravena took a piece of old know-how - simply using a strap wrapped around your knees and back and using that to balance weight - and designed a fancier version to use as a simplified chair.
