TreeHugger has shown many ways to hide the bed; most are designed to gain more space. But the Red Nest by Paul Coudamay doesn't; the bed is still there taking up space, but is hidden by the sliding bookcase.

Over the past half dozen years we've had more folding bikes cross our screens at TreeHugger than a rear bicycle wheel has spokes. And they keep on coming.
The latest one is courtesy of Saul Maret, a French designer, currently based in Boston, Massachusetts. He has shipped images of his Le Pliable folding bike around to various websites the past few weeks.

One of the key elements of Passivhaus design has been the use of generous south-facing glazing for passive solar gain. That's great in winter, but you can have too much of a good thing in summer.

Concept cars can be annoying. The bad ones are a waste of time, and the good ones don't always go into production, which is frustrating. But they're still useful because they show us what engineers and designers are working on, and they give us clues about the future direction of car companies.

A Greenpeace protest against tuna fishing in the Mediterranean turned violent yesterday when an activist was harpooned in the leg by a French fisherman. Armed with sandbags, Greenpeace members planned to weigh down fishing nets attached to the boat to the point where the trapped tuna could escape.

We keep saying that green roofs are changing architecture and planning, and here is another example, where the green roof turns into green walls and comes down to grade. Actually not to grade, but to some form of podium.
